Barugh fc Open age team win pre-season tornament.

Barugh F.C. Open Age team won the pre-season tournament on 31st August. Barugh Football Club added their name to a prestigious list of Barnsley teams ranging back to '1892' when they overcome the Crown and Anchor in the final of the Barugh Green and District Charity Cup.
The final was played at Dodworth in front of a healthy crowd who watched 2 sides playing good attractive football with strong challenges in abundance.
As the game settled Barugh began to make inroads into the Anchor defence with Scott O'Callaghan leading the front line only being denied with some last ditch tackling.
The second period saw Barugh begin to dominate the game with Jones, Ashurst and Williams creating chances from midfield. The deadlock was broken when the effervescent John McSevenney broke through from the halfway line and shoot past the advancing keeper for a well deserved goal.
Barugh should have increased their lead with several chances going begging as the game progressed but with only 5minutes remaining the Anchor were warded a penalty for a foul in the area which was duly converted.
In failing light the match had to be decided on penalties and Barugh keeper Ashley Stewart became the hero of the hour when he pushed 2 efforts onto the post as his teammates converted their spot kicks to win by 4-2.
This was a great victory for Barugh FC who beat off competition from 16 well established local sides to lift the cup and will use this as a platform to move into open age in the coming seasons.
