Kick Off : 10:30 Meeting Time :

Barugh Girls U-14’s travelled to local rivals Dodworth at the weekend and they were very fortunate to record a 3-1 win after a below par performance. Dodworth were the better side in the first half and deservedly took the lead with a superb strike which gave stand in goalkeeper Olivia Gorringe no chance at all, as the ball flew into the top corner of the net. Barugh were struggling to find any rhythm until the reliable Amy Helliwell exchanged passes with Sarah Vickers to fire a superb shot against the foot of the post and see the ball cleared to safety much to the home sides relief. The first five minutes of the second half saw a up turn in Barugh’s fortunes as Fee Ellis bravely battled her way passed two home defenders to square the ball to Amy Helliwell who gleefully fired home into the empty net, this lifted Barugh spirits as they needed to match Dodworths team effort if they were going to get any thing out or the game. The game started to flow from end to end with both teams having chances to score Barugh’s defenders Hannah Beaumont and Kirsti Leigh were both had outstanding in the second half along with goal keeper Olivia Gorringe who tidied every thing up she had to deal with. You felt it was going to take something special to break the dead lock as both teams looked evenly matched, this bit of magic came from Rosie Davies as she struck a sweet left foot shot from just within her own half that deceived the unfortunate home goal keeper and ended up going over her head into the back of the net to give Barugh the lead. This gave Barugh the confidence that they had been lacking through out and they managed to increase their lead in the final minutes when the hard working Fee Ellis again dribbled past two home defender’s to squeeze the ball home into the corner of the net. Barugh’s player of the match went to stand-in goal keeper Olivia Gorringe who’s handling and kicking was superb through out.
